Abstract (Filipino)
Ang pag-aaral na ito ay tumutukoy sa kahalagahan at impluwensiya ng midya sa Diaspora, partikular sa paglilinaw ng papel ng migrant media sa pagbuo ng Imagined Community ng mga Pilipinong nasa Diaspora sa United Arab Emirates (UAE). Gamit ang Framing Analysis para sa pagbuo ng content analysis sa main stories ng 26 na issues ng The Filipino Times mula Enero hanggang Hunyo 2024 at semi-structured interviews sa 20 na mambabasa ng The Filipino Times (TFT), dinalumat kung paano binabalangkas ang mga piling artikulo at kung paano nabubuo ang mga pananaw at representasyon ng pagka-Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng pagbabasa ng TFT para makalikha ng imagined community. Ang pag-aaral ay nagpakita kung paano ang migrant media tulad ng TFT ay lumilikha at nagpapalakas ng imagined community ng mga Pilipino sa Diaspora, na tumutugon sa kanilang pangangailangan para sa koneksyon, pagkakakilanlan, at pakikipag-ugnayan sa kapwa Pilipino kahit malayo sa homeland. Natuklasan din mula sa pananaliksik na ito ang katangiang para sa mga Pilipino lamang na may malaking epekto sa pagpapatibay ng Imagined Community. Ang konsepto ng “kapwa” na kadalasang lumalabas na ideya sa panayam kung saan ang pagmamalasakit sa kapwa ay lagi’t laging nararamdaman, kaya’t ang pakiramdam na kaisa sa komunidad ay napananatili. Gayundin, ang konsepto ng ParaSocial Relationship (PSRs) kung saan ang pagkakaroon ng ugnayan sa mga tampok na indibidwal sa mga artikulo kung saan nakaka-ugnay ang mambabasa kahit hindi nila kilala. kapaki-pakinabang na ambag ang konsepto ng sikolohiyang Pilipino na “kapwa” at Parasocial Relationship ng mananaliksik para sa lalong pagpapayaman ng pag-aaral para sa mga Pilipinong nasa diaspora sa UAE.

Abstract (English)
This study examines the role of migrant media in shaping an imagined community among Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), focusing on the influence of The Filipino Times (TFT) as a diasporic news platform. Guided by framing theory, the research employed content analysis of the main stories from 26 issues of TFT published between January and June 2024, alongside semi-structured interviews with 20 TFT readers. The analysis explored how media frames construct meanings, representations, and perceptions of Filipino identity that contribute to a shared sense of belonging among readers in the diaspora. Findings reveal that TFT plays a significant role in fostering connection, identity, and community engagement among Filipinos despite physical distance from the homeland. The study highlights culturally specific mechanisms that reinforce the imagined community, particularly the Filipino psychological concept of kapwa, which emphasizes shared identity, empathy, and collective concern. Additionally, the presence of parasocial relationships enables readers to form perceived connections with individuals featured in media narratives, further strengthening community ties. By integrating kapwa and parasocial relationships into diaspora media analysis, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of Filipino identity formation and community-building processes in the UAE.
