Abstract/Summary

Abstract

This study explores the experiences of school principals leading and managing technology integration during the COVID-19 pandemic. A phenomenological research design is inspired by the work of Max van Manen, which has been applied in this study. Using a purposive sampling method, six principals from the NCR were selected for this study based on their involvement with technology integration initiatives and diverse experiences as school leaders. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that principals faced numerous challenges in the setting of the pandemic: rapid transition to online learning, teachers and students needing support, and pressing issues created by inequity and access. According to them, such a response was addressed by using existing technologies, managing the learning systems, and building collaboration and effective communication with all stakeholders. The study further identified some leadership competencies at the core of the principals' abilities to navigate such challenges in terms of adaptability, resilience, and a commitment to continuous learning. It further recommended more studies on the implications of technology integration in schools for an in-depth long-term pandemic effect and an investigation into the experiences of principals in diverse settings.
