Abstract/Summary

Destructive leadership is a widespread issue in various organizations, often leading to high turnover, poor job satisfaction, lack of commitment, low productivity, and elevated levels of stress and anxiety. This phenomenon is particularly prevalent in academic organizations, which researches are limited. Thus, the study was intended to understand the perceived destructive leadership experienced by mid-level educational leaders, specifically millennials, in Catholic educational institutions. The research was conducted in NCR, Philippines, where RCAM-ES members schools are located. The case study involved six millennial mid-level administrators, three males and three females, born between 1981 and 1996. The study utilized Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as a qualitative data collection method, and an online software qualitative analysis — Delve, in performing thematic analysis on the concepts. The findings revealed seven (7) themes related to perceived experience with destructive leadership: Destructive Leadership Background, Understanding Destructive Leadership and Interaction Effects of Perceived Destructive Leadership, Destructive Leadership Fundamentals, Impact on Emotions and Organizational Dynamics, Learning and Growing from Destructive Leadership, and Leadership Decision-Making and External Factors. The study's significance lies in its ability to fill the knowledge gap in literature on destructive leadership and offer insights in improving overall school dynamics and mitigating its effects. The implications of this study suggested a holistic and proactive approach to leadership development, organizational culture, and collaborative decision-making.
