Abstract (English)

Much of sport parenting research adopts an adult-centric view and neglects child-athletes’ moral agency and epistemic authority. Existing literature focuses on determining the best parenting practices without enough input from the children themselves, who are the recipients of these practices. This approach is because of the developmental paradigms where children are viewed as rationally and morally immature, a reason why in most cases, their insights are not treated as credible for research purposes, paving the way for adult centrism. This notion may be explained as a common tendency of putting value on adult perspectives at the expense of perspectives from the younger communities which is highly relevant to epistemic injustice in the sense that their capacity as the ‘knower’ are disregarded, marginalizing their community from making significant inputs on sport parenting research. Moreover, adult centrism creates an imbalance society, where adults would be of the only source of relevance, overriding the lived experiences of the younger communities. This study argues that sport parenting research will remain ethically flawed due to the lack of meaningful input from child-athletes tampering not only the credibility of sport parenting researches, but also relationships among child-athletes, parents, and coaches. Of which, the significance lies in changing the route of sport parenting research from determining the best adult behaviors to understanding how child-athletes develop within their relationships with their parents and coaches. The core problem this study addresses is the philosophical gap in valuing child-athletes’ voices through hermeneutical injustice as a framework. Expanding on what is it and how does it occur on sport parenting researches, how it affects current sport researches and how it can be dealt with the aims of betterments in sport parenting researches, extending Fricker’s framework of epistemic injustice to sports ethics, this paper aims to reveal how adult-centrism marginalizes children as knowers.

Karamihan ng pananaliksik ukol sa pagpapalaki ng mga batang athleta ay naka pokus sa pananaw ng magulang at hindi sa sariling panagutan at maging isang kapanipaniwala na bukal ng impormasyon epistemic authority. Ang kasalukuyang literatura ay naka pokus sa mga nakasanayang pamamaraan ng pagpapalaki ng isang batang athleta ngunit hindi sapat ang mga nakukuhang pananaw galing sa mga batang athleta partikular sa kanilang mga personal na karanasan. Ang dahilan kung bakit hindi binigyan importansya ang mga karanasan ng mga bata ng athleta ay dahil sila ay bata pa at ang kanilang mga karanasan ay ipinapalagay ma mababaw at hindi kapanipaniwala at dahil sa mga dahilan na ito ang pagpapalaki ng mga batang athleta ay nasa pananaw lang ng mga magulang o mga matatanda sa buhay ng mga bata. Ang paniniwala na ito ay ipinalaganap ang ideya na ang perspektibo ng mga magulang o nakakatanda na tao sa buhay ng isang bata ang perspektibo ng dapat sundin at hindi binabalewala ang kapasidad nila bilang isang nakakaalam. Katwiran ng papel na ito na ang kasalukuyan na mga pag-aaral sa larangan ng pagpapalaki ng mga batang athleta ay may depekto kasi walang makabuluhan na karanasan ng galing sa mga batang athleta. Ang saklaw nito ay hindi lang sa paraan kung paano sila pinalaki pero sa relasyon ng mga batang athleta sa mga nakakatanda sa buhay nila. Ang pagbabago ay pwedeng makuha sa pamamaraan ng pagbabago ng pinanggagalingan na paraan ng pagpapalaki ng mga batang athleta patungo sa mas mainam na pagka intindi ng dinamika ng mga batang athleta sa mga nakakatanda sa kanila. Ang balangkas na ginamit upang mas ipaliwanag ang problema na ito ay ang inhustisiya sa pagpigil sa pagka intindi ng impormasyon at kung paano ito naapektuhan ang problema, at ipinagpatuloy nito ang balangkas ni Fricker na mali ang isang tao sa kapasidad nila bilang isang nakakaalam sa larangan ng pagpapalaki ng mga batang athleta.
