Abstract (English)

With the aim in accounting for the unjust absence of the significance of natality in the work of Heidegger and his interpreters, particularly in relation to the field of narrative, I take natality and one's thrownness as significant for this debate because philosophers in the narrative debate often only concern themselves with the narrative implications of Dasein’s end, focusing on how Dasein’s death signifies the existential limit of its identity insofar it signifies its being-towards-its-end, leading to a sore gap with regard to the natality’s role as a narrative’s beginning. When we actually do consider the hermeneutic role of natality in our lives as beginning, it will be seen that focusing on birth provides an alternative path in understanding the "who" of Dasein and that natality maintains a special relationship with regard to our capacity for self-interpretation. Particularly, I argue that the sense of being in the middle of a story wherein Dasein can self-interpret presupposes the syncopated temporality of natality, that is the sense of belatedness inherent in understanding one’s birth and the natal situation that one is thrown into as finding oneself in the middle of a story always involves the factical past one carries.
