Abstract/Summary
Worldwide, there has long been a problem with violence against women. Despite being frowned upon by society, it persists. The Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, or RA 9262, was enacted by the Philippine government to stop this. In order to better understand the legislative background of RA 9262, this study traced the bill's evolution from earlier attempts to address violence against women to its passage in 2004. The study also sought to shed light on the creation of women's rights laws in the Philippine setting and whether or not they have to be amended after being passed.
