Abstract/Summary

Beyond The Great Wall: The View of the Filipino-Chinese Generation Z on Interracial Relationships is a docudrama about an interracial couple facing the prohibited interracial marriage known as ‘The Great Wall.’ It will revolve around a Filipina and a Filipino-Chinese couple who are determined to make their relationship work despite the challenges and unfavorable circumstances. This docudrama aims to show the stigma they face and consequently how they navigate their way through it all.

Not only has this restrictive practice been a hindrance to the success of interracial couples, but it also challenges Gen Z individuals who have adopted a more multicultural perspective towards their relationship with their family. Having been raised in a conservative environment that abides by this, all while growing up in a generation that embraces inclusivity allows for conflict to arise due to different perspectives.

This docudrama is based on the narrative provided by the project’s case study, which has given their consent prior to writing and shooting the screenplay. Due to the themes that the group wanted to tackle, this allowed for a more thorough portrayal through multiple perspectives. In addition, actors were used to depict the case study through a reconstruction.

The entire project was produced for four months which comprised of research, an in-person interview, shooting, and post-production. The total run time of the docudrama is eighteen minutes and forty-eight seconds and is uploaded in MP4 Format.
