Abstract/Summary

Artists get inspiration from human experiences and emotions. As future media practitioners, the proponents aim to tell a story that talks about the untold process of creating art–the slump, the rejected ideas, and the emotional turmoil the artist goes through to finish a work. At the same time, the group wants to appeal to the emotions of its audience and include a narrative they can relate to by exploring the idea of losing someone. Putting these two objectives together, Sineng Buhay features the story of a scriptwriter struggling to finish his screenplay but eventually finds motivation when he learns about the illness of the person who has been there for him.

There are three driving concepts or topics of Sineng Buhay. First, it explores relationships in youth. The story fleshes out how genuine support systems can bring out the best in a person. The film also tackles grief when the main character deals with the reality of losing a beloved to an illness. The protagonist grapples with the emotional weight of this occurrence and goes through the process of understanding his emotions better. Lastly, the project shows the concept of expressing oneself through art by using these experiences and emotions–in this story, grief, among others–as a driving force to create and write something beautiful despite adversity.

Sineng Buhay is a 20-minute feature film that combines the English and Filipino languages or Taglish for the dialogue. It incorporates the full production process including conceptualization, scriptwriting, camerawork, audio recording, and post-production to its story. Additionally, the film features seven (7) outsourced talents that bring life to the narrative. The post-production process also incorporates color grading, audio editing, and scoring to further add detail and finishing touches to the final product.
