Abstract/Summary

Brushing Limits is set in an art gallery showcasing a renowned artist’s newest exhibition. Ethan reluctantly accompanies his sister, Mia, inside. As he explores the displayed artworks, his journey intertwines with stories from three individuals connected by art and disability, allowing him to delve deeper into each work's origins, nuances, and intentions. He then comes out with a newfound perspective after the whole experience.

The 15-minute feature film dives into one of the unrecognized types of minor disabilities, colorblindness, also less formally known as “color vision deficiency” (CVD). It also takes inspiration from success stories of colorblind artists who were recognized for their talents regardless of their physical impairments.

The film's characters propel the story to explore and narrate hints of the realities that individuals affected by this condition undergo, especially within the Arts. It also incorporates color grading that simulates the colors people with CVD see. Hence, through the fusion of storytelling, characterization, and color grading, it seeks to deliver a core message that "[having a] disability does not mean inability."

Furthermore, the production team was fortunate to have worked with an actor who shared the same condition as the character he portrayed, adding an extra layer of authenticity and insight to the storytelling. The four-day filming collaboration between the cast and crew created a supportive and inclusive environment, a highlight of the whole production process.
