Abstract/Summary

By examining how workplace ergonomics affect accessibility, inclusion, and employee well-being, this dissertation focuses on Filipino employees with disabilities within various sectors. The researchers adopted a qualitative phenomenological approach to investigate Filipino employees with disabilities and human resources professionals, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. There are significant flaws in implementing ergonomics standards for people with disabilities in the workplace. Participants noted that inaccessible infrastructure, uneven floors, and inadequate adaptations harm productivity, mobility, and well-being. Some companies have implemented flexible working arrangements or adaptable furniture, while others have adopted inconsistent or reactive approaches to ergonomics. Employees frequently had to battle for their accommodations owing to a lack of defined standard regulations. Despite these challenges, suitable ergonomic processes increased job satisfaction, less absenteeism, and more employee involvement. Diversity in the workforce must be promoted through fair hiring practices, disability awareness training, and accessible infrastructure to keep the workforce engaged and diverse. Based on universal design principles, this thesis advocates implementing proactive ergonomic practices to establish ergonomics regulations and to collaborate with organizations, such as the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office, to promote accessibility, inclusion, and wellness for employees.
