Abstract/Summary

The principal, Mr. Jose Bueno, is in a dilemma wherein he must plan a course of action in order that the commencement exercises will be held peacefully. Surrounding his dilemma are Ronald's violations that led to the faculty's decision to punish him the threats from Dr. Salviejo and, the consequences affecting the faculty and his position should he decide to change what had been decided on. In dealing with the case, the Principal has the following alternatives and consequences: 1. To push through with the decision to protect the reputation of the school. The consequences of this alternative would be that the principal would receive negative reactions from the teachers who were in favor of forgiving the boy all the more Dr. Salviejo would persist on doing his threats which may create a lot of trouble to teachers and the school and, the parents would come to think that the school does not have the heart that can forgive an erring student whose dreams and aspirations can be shattered by the punishment imposed on him. 2. To allow Ronald to participate in the commencement exercises and avoid troubles. The consequences of this would be that he would be branded an autocratic administrator majority of the faculty would be all against him as a decision had already been arrived at he would be establishing a bad precedence in allowing a culprit to go unnoticed the school would be branded bias to some students and, though he would have Dr. Salviejo on his side. 3. To postpone the graduation ceremony to allow Dr. Salviejo to cool off and get an advice from the Ministry of Education and culture. For this alternative, this would tantamount to giving the doctor more time to prepare his suit the faculty would oppose him because this would mean longer stay in school and, Dr. Salviejo would realize the gravity of his son's offense and accept the decision. 4. To get the support of other influential people such as the PTA president, the Parish Priest, or the Mayor, in making the doctor concede. This alternative would enrage the doctor all the more as he had been convinced earlier that the punishment was too much for the offense; parents would think that the administration and faculty would not stand on their own; and he would be criticized by his own faculty for his inability to stand alone.
