Abstract/Summary

CattBrEx (Cattle Breeding Expert System) is an expert system that aids in the prediction and selection of cattle breeding. It was developed for the use of 5A Cattle Breeding Farm. The system has two main functions namely, consultation and system management. The consultation feature is composed of two parts: Pair selection and EPD prediction. The pair selection provides the user with a recommended bull for the selected dam. EPD prediction uses two kinds of inference methods, forward and backward chaining. Forward chaining, EPD prediction provides the user a predicted value for the three most economically important traits in cattle, namely the birth weight, weaning weight and yearling weight. Backward chaining, EPD prediction allows the user to input his desired ranges for the traits and the system will find a suitable mate for the animal. System management is for the purpose of database maintenance. It allows authorized users to perform data manipulations like addition, deletion, and modifications. System management also functions as a tool for monitoring or tracking cattle records. The program also provides the user a help facility.
