Abstract/Summary

The research study focused on identifying the motives and perceived impact of volunteers in Gawad Kalinga. In-depth interviews were conducted in order to know about the volunteer's reasons for joining Gawad Kalinga, their lifestyles, why they continued volunteering, and if there were changes in their views, beliefs, opinions and way of living afterwards. There were eighteen (18) Gawad Kalinga volunteers (belonging to the student, non working, and working sub groups) who participated in the study and the data gathered were analyzed using content analysis. The study found out that the volunteers had similarities and differences in their motives and perceived impacts with their Gawad Kalinga involvement. They primarily joined the service because they wanted to share what they have with others. The study also showed the perceived impacts to the volunteers, which were to live a simple life, continuously give time for Gawad Kalinga volunteer service, and give importance to the less fortunate with the thought in mind that they are also our responsibility.
