Abstract/Summary
Located on the northwestern part of the Philippines, Bolinao-Anda reef system exhibit rich and diverse coral species. This study is conducted within five (5) study sites from March 2010 to April 2011. Recruitment tiles were used to (1) determine the composition of coral recruits at Bolinao-Anda reef system (2) determine spatial and temporal variations of coral composition and (3) correlate coral recruit abundance with adult coral composition. Corals belonging to the family Pocilloporidae and non-scleractinian corals were most abundant in terms of raw number and density in all sites except for Silaki (Site 1), which had almost no coral recruit. Coral recruit composition was most diverse in Caniogan (Site 6). Analysis of similarity suggests that there were no differences between the composition and abundance of the coral families among the five (5) study sites but a trend is observed towards significance. There was also no significant difference (p>0.05) in the average number of recruits per tile between the relatively wet (March 2010 to September 2010) and the relatively dry season (September 2010 to April 2011). The composition of adults and the composition of juvenile during the same time period were found to be very different.
