Abstract/Summary

The main aim of the study is to describe and analyze the day care center's role in the socialization of children. The researchers intends to conduct the study in only one day care center located at Brgy. Balong-Bato in San Juan wherein 30 respondents were interviewed and the children were observed during actual activities. The respondents chosen are mothers of children who have been enrolled and/or currently enrolled in the day care center for at least six (6) months. The researchers used a rating scale in order for the mothers to assess the contribution of the day care center to the children and to assess the center itself. The results, as perceived by the mothers, show a significant contribution by the center in the development of the children in the areas of social interaction, communication, intellect, and emotions. Consequently, the day care center is seen as a socializing agent in the form of a learning center since the mothers perceive that their children improve their learning abilities while in the day care center. These findings show that the day care center play a significant role in the socialization of the children, in the case of Brgy. Balong-Bato day care center, since it provides benefits to both the children and the mothers of relatively poor communities.
