Abstract/Summary
In today's very competitive world, every CEO or Manager is seeking the best ways to get results from his employees. Most of the best managed companies in the United States are very particular in having their new recruits adopt and learn the company's Values, Beliefs, Philosophy, History, Goals, and Policy. Making the new recruits adopt these various aspects of the company is actually letting them undergo a socialization process. When the top corporations in the United States were studied in terms of their socialization practices, certain similarities and patterns were found. These patterns may also be true for the top corporations in the Philippines like: San Miguel Petron Corp. Bank of the Philippine Islands Philippine National Bank Metro Drug Inc. Philippine Ports Authority Jollibee. It is also interesting to determine the particular patterns and trends characteristics of the Filipino corporation. To be able to determine these socialization practices, it should first be sought out if these corporations have Values, Beliefs, Philosophy, Goals, and Policies. When it is affirmed that these companies do have the latter aspects, the companies are then asked on what practices, processes, and activities are utilized to impart these. Once these practices have been determined, they shall now be compared, and patterns and trends are sought out. The works of Van Maanen and Pascale shall also be used in this comparison. From this study we have learned that the Filipino corporations socialization processes are basically similar. Although some of the companies have a more intensive application of their programs. We have also learned that these socialization practices are basically formal in nature with regards to the higher levels of management. On the other hand, the socialization practices for the rank and file are informal in nature. Lastly, we have learned that not all of Pascale's seven steps of socialization are being practiced among the top corporations in the Philippines.
