Abstract/Summary
The research is an evaluation of Steven Javellana's Without Seeing the Dawn based on Georg Lukacs theories on idea, form and concept. It aims to prove that these theories which includes, the concepts of naturalism and realism, descriptive and narrative methods, false objectivism and false subjectivism, typically and world-historical, above and below, and the hero, are applicable to the novel. These concepts are used because it deals with the historical novel in which Without Seeing the Dawn is considered to be one.Since the study basically deals with Philippine history, as reflected in the novel, history books and other materials about Philippines are used in order to prove the truth of the events depicted. This study only comprises the time before the Japanese conquered the Philippines up to the Japanese Occupation. Therefore, Without Seeing the Dawn is presentation of a segment of Philippine history in a creative manner.
