Abstract/Summary

A taxonomic survey of Marine Gastropod shells found in Locloc beach, Bauan, Batangas was conducted during the months of April and September 1993. There were 27 species of marine gastropod shells were collected, identified and classified. These species belong to 1 Class (Gastropoda), 1 subclass (Prosobranchia), 3 orders (Archaeogastropoda, Neogastropoda and Megagastropoda), 1 suborder (Trochina). 10 superfamilies (Trochacea, Muricoida, Conacea, Volutacea, Mitracea, Muricacea, Cypraeacea, Strombacea, Cymatiacea and Cerithiacea), 11 families (Trochidae, Turbinidae, Fasciolariidae, Conidae, Olividae, Mitridae, Muricidae, Cypraeidae, Strombidae, Cymatiidae and Cerithiidae), 13 genera (Tectus, Trochus, Turbo, Pleuroploca, Conus, Oliva, Mitra, Chicoreus, Cypraea, Strombus, Lambis, Cymatium and Rhinoclavis) and 27 species (T. Chrysostomus, C. Mustelinus, C. microphyllus, C. Stercusmuscarum, C. lynx, C. striatus, P. trapezium, L. millepeda, T. niloticus, C. textile, T. malculatus, C. aquatile, C. hepaticum, C. capitaneus, C. pulicarius, M. feruginea, C. ramosus, C. litoglyphus, C. arabica, C. moneta, C. annulus, R. sinensis, S. luhuanus, O. annulata nebulosa, C. helvola, C. talpa, S. mutabilis).The collection site was the littoral area of 500 meters along the shoreline and about 3-5 meters away from the shoreline. The site was generally shallow with fine and coarse sand and rocky substratum.
