Abstract/Summary
To address material problems and their associated costs, the owner and the contractor must pursue and implement innovative quality-monitoring strategies. This paper presents the need for the planning, scheduling, and monitoring of construction materials to ensure the continuous availability and supply. The objectives were met through an extensive literature review and in-depth interviews from two construction firms involved in vertical and horizontal construction. The paper concludes that the usage of owner-furnished materials is a means of solving material problems and the implementation of monitoring procedures is a cost and time effective control. An example application is presented to illustrate the objective.
