Abstract

The university campus is the culture's primary means of claiming the hearts and minds of the younger generation. It is also the society's arena for testing the validity of rapidly shifting values. With the globalization process, there are the bewitching temptations of a consumer culture and the uncritical hypnotism induced by mass communications among the students. And the ways of life brought about by a globalized system, contributed to the student's continuing search for meaning or purpose in life. In the meantime, poverty persists. environmental destruction escalates and moral degradation deepens.
Profound changes that have taken place in campus culture pose challenge on the formation of student's social values. The future of our nation depends on the quality of nurturance of leadership development of young people as it relates to the many social, economic and political challenges of nation building. There is a need to develop a sound relationship with the wider society around the University. There is a need to develop programs outside the regular classroom in order to shape the student's character, social, moral and spiritual formation.
