Abstract
This study aimed to find out the perceptions and attitudes of the instructors from the College of Arts and Sciences of the Cavite State Unversity (CVS) towards the sue and acceptance of Philippine English. Data were taken from a total of 60 instructors, 30 from the Humanities and Social Department and 30 from the Science Department using a survey questionnaire. Simple frequency counts and percentages were used in the analysis of the profile of the respondents and other items of the questionnaire. However, the correlation coefficient was used in the attempt to compare the level of agreement of between the Science instructors and Humanities instructors. The results of the survey generally indicate that most of the Sciences and Humanities instructors of CSU were positive about the idea that they are using. Philippine English. There were no conflicting attitudes about their concepts of Philippine English. For the majority of the respondents, Philippine English is the variety of English that Filipinos should speak regardless of the regional differences in pronunciation and vocabulary in Philippine English. They were also convinced that PE should be used when communicating with one another. However, since majority of them are more proficient in Filipino, it has become the language they use at home and other specific domains. English is used only in most formal setting like delivering class lectures. Most of the respondents were also convinced that the Standard of English used in the media should be improved. This is probably an indication of their awareness on the poor kind of English used in the media.
