Dr. Cirilo Bautista, full professor of the Literature Department and Director-General of the Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center, was conferred the 1997 Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas by the Unyon ng Mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas in ceremonies at the Goethe House. The award, given by his literary peers, recognized his lifetime achievements as a Filipino writer.
