Abstract/Summary

This action research aims to develop, validate and implement Video-Based Learning Materials (VBLM) to supplement learning about quadratic equations under modular distance learning. More specifically, the study identified the challenges encountered by the students in learning math content and used this information to develop content. Participants of this study were twelve (12) grade 9 students from one class whose previous mathematics teachers qualitatively identified them as struggling learners in math. The study utilized the Action Research design following the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data from a focused group discussion with the parents and interviews with the students. Results revealed that challenges of the students in learning math content are lack of additional learning support, insufficient background in math, and content of the SLM. The design and Learning and and students showed a highly favorable rating of the VBLM. The result also revealed that the VBLM helped the students learn math in ways such as (1) providing clear and adequate examples, (2) being easy to follow, and (3) promoting independence. The findings of this action research may be significant to teachers wanting to develop their video lessons to improve the lesson delivery.
