Abstract/Summary
In this action research, we pursued to resolve the inconsistent 5S+2 policy implementation of the Audit Team at the Manila Branch. We believe that it will positively change the employees’ overall development and our workplace. The group’s issue manifestations were the absence of coordination, absence of definite plans for continuous performance, procrastination of the team, reactive employees, and misplaced documents. The group’s main objectives include improving employee wellness and safety, boosting team morale and productivity, compliance with HR policy, and developing employee discipline and habits. Fulfilling all these objectives shall facilitate attainment of promoting a humane and enabling workplace for all through the improvement of the 5S policy.
This action research was a collective endeavor and utilized the ‘three audiences’ - first, second, and third-person inquiry to gather data during our numerous meetings and group sessions. The 5S methodology, Theory of Reasoned Action, and Planned Behavior and Reinforcement Theory guided the group to address our issue and attain our goal. We also used Lewin’s Change Management Theory to carry out the changes we intended to deliver in our workplace. Under the two-cycle, the group re-established the policy to have a baseline workplace according to 5S and focused on sustaining the policy and incorporating discipline and habits. Overall, it brought positive change and promoted a humane and enabling workplace for the audit employees. In addition, we developed framework which introduced a “new phase” on the approach. It involved the assessment of shared values and culture using the Lasallian Reflection Framework. The evaluation will lead to an understanding of the behavior of the employees and organization before setting them to the other phases. The assessment of shared values and culture increases the likelihood of having a successful implementation of 5S methodology in the organization.
