Abstract/Summary

This action research involved two research cycles to improve the teachers’ job satisfaction of selected group of teachers from Grade Seven, Shouguang CC Middle School which belongs to Shouguang CC Education Group. It is also a boarding school such that majority of students live in the school campus. As such, teachers are not only responsible for teaching in the classrooms, but in charge of students’ welfare in all aspects of life and rest. The management and care of students 24-hours a day has greatly extended the working hours of teachers and increased their work intensity. With increased schoolwork duties, many teachers felt the intense workload such that they have no time to take care of their families and personal life. Our private school has high requirements for teaching performance such that our teachers undertake more than twice as much teaching work as teachers at other schools. They also undertake many non-teaching-related tasks. Therefore, this action research addressed the teachers’ dissatisfaction with their work through interventions that focus on balancing the teachers’ work time and workload to ensure the teachers’ rest time. With the flexible working practice in our school, many work aspects are often involved, such as strategic workforce planning, performance management, compensation, and labor relations. I applied the First, Second, and Third Person Inquiries to collect and analyze data as our collaborative team solved the issue and carried out interventions. The Holistic Human Development (IHD), the People Capability Maturity Model(P-CMM), and Lewin's Change Model guided us in implementing interventions. As a Lasallian business leader, this action research demonstrated that with proper mindset, commitment, and collaboration, we could bring a positive change in our work environment. We learned that even in small voices, we could help make organizations and the world a better place.
