Sa panahon ng dihital, unti-unting nagbukas ang oportunidad sa mga Pilipinang aktres upang maging bahagi ng mga pelikulang internasyonal. Sa pag-aaral na ito, layunin mailahad ang representasyon ng mga imahen ng karakter ng Pilipinang aktres sa mga pelikulang internasyonal at matukoy ang mga hamon na itinataguyod nito sa industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino. Ang mga pelikulang sinuri ay ang Stand by Me (2018), Holy Emy (2021), Plan 75 (2022), Nocebo (2022), Triangle of Sadness (2022), at Summer of ’69 (2025) na pinili ayon sa itinakdang batayan gamit ang quota sampling. Ang mga pelikula ay sinipat suri gamit ang iba’t ibang pamamaraan ng pagkalap ng datos; ang pagtala ng mahahalagang eksena at ang masusing pagsusuri sa bawat pelikula gamit ang mga gabay, batayan at suliranin ng pag-aaral. Ginamit bilang teoretikal na batayan sa pag-aaral ang feminismong pananaw ni Molly Haskell tungkol sa karakterisasyon ng karakter at temang pangkababaihan sa pelikula. Sa pagsusuri ng representasyon nito, masusing tinalakay ang mga pelikula batay sa inilalarawang katangian nito; pisikal, emoyonal at tono ng pananalita. Sinuri at inilapat din ang konsepto ng karakterisasyon ng karakter ng pagiging ordinaryo, ekstra ordinaryo, ordinaryo naging ekstra ordinaryo na nakatulong sa malalim na paglalarawan sa mga Pilipinang aktres sa pelikulang internasyonal. Mula sa naging representasyon ng mga karakter at batay sa pagsusuri, natukoy ang ilang mga hamon sa industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino; kabilang ay ang pag-iwas sa nakasanayang pagkakahon sa pamantayan ng imahen na ninanais ng mga manunuod para sa mga Pilipinang aktres at ang pagtataguyod ng identidad at temang naaayon sa kontekstong panlipunan ng mga kababaihan. Ipinakikita rin ng pag-aaral na ang mga Pilipinang aktres ay mas binigyan ng angkop na paglalarawan at eksposyur ng pelikulang internasyonal ayon sa konteksto ng kanilang lipunan. Itinatampok ng mga karakter ng Pilipinang aktres ang makabagong identidad ng isang babae na nagkaroon ng kakayahan, kritikal na pag-iisip, sariling desisyon at katapangan na harapin ang kanyang sariling suliranin. Sa ganitong konteksto, ang pagbibigay ng angkop at makatotohanang representasyon ng mga karakter ng Pilipinang aktres ay nakapagtaguyod ng 9 panibagong identidad na lumalayo sa isteryotipikal na paglalarawan sa mga ito at pagbasag sa nakasanayang pamantayan ng aktres sa lipunang Pilipino.

Abstract (English)
In the digital age, opportunities for the Filipina actresses have gradually opened up to become part of the international films. This study aims to articulate the representation of the images of the characters being portrayed by the Filipina actresses’ in international films and the challenges it reinforces in Philippine film industry. The films analyzed were Stand by Me (2018), Holy Emy (2021), Plan 75 (2022), Nocebo (2022), Triangle of Sadness (2022), and Summer of ’69 (2025) which were selected based on the criteria for film selection using quota sampling. The films were analyzed using various data-gathering methods, including the documentation of the significant scenes and comprehensive analysis of the films using the study’s guide, criteria and research questions. The study used the feminist perspective of Molly Haskell as theoretical framework especially the characterization and women’s theme in films. In analyzing its representations, the films were examined based on characteristic’s depicted, including physical, emotional and tone of speech. The concepts of characterization were also examined and applied; the ordinary, extraordinary, and the ordinary becoming extraordinary, which facilitated a deeper understanding of the representation of the Filipina actresses in international films. Based on the character’s representation and the in-depth analysis, several challenges in Filipino film industry were identified. These include breaking away from the practice of limiting the image of Filipina actresses to standards based on the viewer’s perspective and establishing of identities and themes that appropriately reflects the social context of women. The study also shows that the Filipina actresses in international films are given an appropriate portrayals and greater exposure aligned on their social contexts. The characters portrayed by Filipina actresses highlight a modern female identity characterized by competence, critical thinking, independent decision-making, and the courage to confront personal struggles. In this context, presenting an appropriate and realistic representations of Filipino actresses' characters strengthens the emergence of a new identity that moves away from stereotypical portrayals and challenges the conventional standards of female actresses in Philippine society.
