Abstract (English)

Digital payment refers to cashless transactions processed using digital instruments such as mobile wallet. This study focuses on the mobile wallets which are used to store money through smartphones or tablets and pay for products and services bought online or instore without having the need to use actual banknotes and coins. Although the Philippines was one of the first countries to use digital payments in the world, Filipinos are slow to adopt the technology especially among older adults such as the Generation X and Baby Boomers. The purpose of this study is to identify how do the Service Quality Determinants such as perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust, and perceived security, as well as the Personal Determinants such as social influence and user innovativeness, influence the Behavioral Intention of Filipino Generation X and Baby Boomers to use mobile wallets in the Philippines. This study applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework and extended it by including variables that would allow for a better understanding of human behavior towards adoption of new technologies. A survey was conducted and a total of 411 valid responses were collected from Filipino Generation X and Baby Boomers residing in Metro Manila and had experience using a mobile wallet at least once since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher used descriptive analysis and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) to describe and interpret if PU, PEOU, T, PS, SI, and UI predict the behavioral intention of Filipino Generation X and Baby Boomers to use mobile wallets in the Philippines. The results suggest that all independent variables have significant effect. wherein perceived ease of use has the greatest impact, while social influence has the least impact on the Behavioral Intention to use mobile wallets. Future researchers can explore on incorporating other factors such as culture, expanding the geographical scope, or using other statistical techniques in the study.
