Abstract (English)
This study developed an annualized earthquake loss (AEL) map for selected hospitals of specific building typologies in Manila City, Philippines to assess seismic risk and aid in earthquake mitigation planning. Using the OpenQuake engine, Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) and classical damage assessment were conducted. Hospital building typologies, including year of construction, storeys, and location, were acquired through GIS tools and used to evaluate the exposure. Philippine-specific fragility curves and locally-fit logic trees of Ground Motion Prediction Equations and seismic source models were applied to estimate losses over a 50-year investigation period, with intensity measure levels from 0.01g to 1.0g. Results revealed that Hospital K incurred the highest annualized losses of around 42 Million PHP, followed by Hospital G with 36 Million PHP and Hospital I with 19 Million PHP. The total annualized loss for all selected hospitals in Manila City amounted to approximately 139 Million PHP and were consolidated into a single AEL map. These values can guide local authorities and hospital administrators in enhancing seismic risk mitigation and disaster preparedness, emphasizing the need to strengthen hospital resilience. The AEL map can also be expanded by other Metro Manila cities to assess the entire National Capital Region and compare hospital AELs per city.
