Abstract (English)
lowercase is a work of creative nonfiction. It uses the form of essays to venture through the intersections and differences between my understanding of what faith should be and the reality of how it has been in my life. In its entirety, it is a memoir told through a collection of personal essays. lowercase is a collection of essays exploring the two sides of the faith coin—the certainty and uncertainty. This work aims to be the two sides of my reality as a Christ follower. Because choosing to be a Christian does not guarantee an easy life, this narrative can easily make one feel like they are doing wrong or not enough.
I want to challenge my own faith as uncertainty leads to anger and frustration. Under the guidance of Platonic Realism and Post-Secularism, this work aims to utilize the two in order to break free from complacency and overfamiliarity to the Savior in order to reintegrate the necessity of Him into the life of one who thought she knew it all. It aims to prove that no matter how hard one can try, how we live will always be an imperfect imitation of the perfect life Jesus lived—and that is okay.
lowercase is not meant to evangelize. It is written by and for me as it reflects on the complexity of and deconstructs the normalized concepts of God, salvation, self, doubt, and rage.
It is my collection of all the right answers.
