Abstract (English)
Heights of Sin is a collection of six stories that explores the psychological and moral complexity of Manila’s young elite as the nnavigate ownership and responsibility in modern Filipino society. arratives they have crafted for themselves begin to unravel during an evening of scandal. Each story is told from a different point of view, allowing the reader to witness how an act of violence dismantles their sense of self, reconstitutes their allegiances, and exacts a moral cost in a world of privilege. The collection operates within a state of psychological realism and social commentary, exploring themes of power, secrets, guilt, and self-preservation. Ultimately, this collection is a study in how wealth and legacy shape the way people behave, operate, relate to one another, and The stories do not portray people in the elite class as caricatures or vilify them; instead, the stories insist that they be regarded as full people, flawed, clever, and shaped by the systems they have inherited. The student’s motivation stems from existing on the outskirts and never fundamentally belonging to that cloistered reality. This is to write not to implicate, but to interrogate the structures that operate as prejudice to render privilege invisible, obscured, and untouchable. Heights of Sin, in the end, simply becomes a fictional inquiry into the collapse of morality beneath privilege, and how the next generation of Manila’s elite is reckoning with power, image, and identity that is shriveled by the legacy of the past.

Ang Heights of Sin ay isang kalipunan ng anim na kuwento na sumisiyasat sa sikolohikal at moral na komplikasyon ng kabataang elite ng Maynila, habang ang mga naratibong kanilang binuo para sa sarili ay unti-unting nagkakalas sa gitna ng isang gabing puno ng iskandalo. Bawat kuwento ay isinasalaysay mula sa iba’t ibang pananaw, na nagbibigay-daan sa mambabasa na masaksihan kung paanong ang isang akto ng karahasan ay gumuguho sa kanilang pakiramdam ng sarili, muling binubuo ang kanilang mga pagkakaugnay, at naniningil ng moral na kapalit sa isang mundong binabalot ng pribilehiyo.
Umiiral ang koleksyon sa larangan ng sikolohikal na realismo at panlipunang komentaryo, na tumatalakay sa mga temang kapangyarihan, lihim, pagkakasala, at pag-iingat sa sarili.
