Abstract (English)
Bakas ng Kahapon is a 22-minute short film that explores intergenerational relationships and the struggles of persons with disabilities (PWDs) as well as their caregivers. It focuses on EJ, a young adult forced by his parents to take on the role of being the caregiver for his grandfather, Lolo Bernie, who has incomplete quadriplegia. The film delves into Lolo Bernie’s challenges as he copes with his loss of independence and longing for familial support. Meanwhile, EJ grapples with the challenges of being torn between duty and personal aspirations. Their intertwined struggles soon reveal unresolved issues between Lolo Bernie and EJ’s father. This film emphasizes the need for empathy, support, and the value of being present.
