Abstract/Summary
Bala ng Berso is a short documentary film that follows the transition of a young battle-rap writer, Francis Vito, to nationally acclaimed Fliptopper, Vitrum. It follows his initial career upon the pre-establishment of Fliptop battles up to his pursuance of a deeper expression for societal adversities. The documentary covers the underground rap scene, FlipTop media, and the public’s perception of the community.
From the dimly lit underground rap battles to the bustling streets where protests rage, each scene paints a vivid picture of Vitrum’s commitment to amplifying the voice of the marginalized. The story revolves around the rapper’s efforts in using his craft as a form of activism as he collaborates with advocacy organizations on the call for action towards the issues faced by marginalized communities. The film utilized Filipino rap music and Fliptop performances. Moreover, it tackles the roots of underground rap in the Philippines and its emerging role in contributing to social transformation.
The production process of the film was done in six months. The pre-production consisted of two parts: (1) conducting interviews to find potential subjects for the documentary and (2) writing of the research paper. The first trimester of the year was allotted for the production part, which is mainly filming, and overlapping post-production (editing, color grading, and subtitling) which ran for one month, from February to March.
The output is in MP4 Format.
