Abstract (English)

In Our Dreams: Making Music in the Silence follows the alternative rock pop band I.O.D, an independent group of passionate musicians, on the crossroads of growing up into the responsibilities of adulthood and the inevitable reality of uncertainty chasing a musical career. The music documentary mainly follows I.O.D’s lead vocalist, MJ Turla, and the lead guitarist, James Cruz, both at different stages of life but collectively feeling the pressure of rising responsibilities. Experiencing their coming-of-age, they reflect on the joys and struggles of chasing a career most likely doomed to fail.

Focusing on the lived experiences of individuals in the independent music scene, the documentary highlights the unnoticed yet shared realities of independent musicians in the Philippines. Set across their local rehearsal studio and homes in Las Pinas, to gigs all the way up in Quezon City, the documentary glimpses into the overshadowed and underappreciated lives of indie artists in the Philippine music scene.

In Our Dreams: Making Music in the Silence ay sumusunod sa alternative rock pop band na I.O.D, isang independent na grupo ng mga musikero na puno ng passion, habang sila ay nasa sangandaan ng pagharap sa mga responsibilidad ng pagiging adulto at sa hindi maiiwasang kawalan ng katiyakan ng paghabol sa karera sa musika. Pangunahing sinusundan ng music documentary sina MJ Turla, ang lead vocalist, at James Cruz, ang lead guitarist, dalawang indibidwal na nasa magkaibang yugto ng buhay ngunit parehong kinakabahan sa tumataas na bigat ng responsibilidad. Habang pinagdaraanan nila ang kanilang coming of age, sinusuri nila ang saya at hirap ng pagtahak sa karerang madalas ituring na mahirap magtagumpay.

Sa pagbibigay pansin sa mga tunay na karanasan ng mga tao sa independent music scene, itinatampok ng dokumentaryo ang mga hindi napapansing ngunit magkakaparehong realidad ng mga independent musicians sa Pilipinas. Mula sa kanilang lokal na rehearsal studio at mga tahanan sa Las Piñas, hanggang sa mga gig sa Quezon City, ipinapakita ng dokumentaryo ang sulyap sa kadalasang natatabunan at hindi gaanong nabibigyang pansin na buhay ng mga indie artist sa Philippine music scene.
