Abstract (English)

This production thesis addresses the organizational communication problem of health communication that is not tailored to the needs and preferences of the target audience. Mary Johnston Hospital’s Department of Family Community Medicine (DFCM) aims to communicate hypertension information to hypertensive residents of Barangay 98 aged 40 and above through the Community-Oriented Care Program (COPC). However, DFCM faces challenges in effective health communication because while its current communication process follows some best practices, it overlooks other crucial aspects of health communication planning (Schiavo, 2014). Using Schiavo’s (2014) model, the researchers developed a communication manual and applied its contents to the current COPC program in Barangay 98. The manual successfully achieved its objectives of (1) helping improve DFCM’s health communication for its COPC program/s through Schiavo’s (2014) audience-specific health communication planning and (2) applying Schiavo’s (2014) health communication planning to DFCM’s current COPC program for improved communication of hypertension to Barangay 98 residents.
