Abstract/Summary
Struggling to fit in her boyfriend’s friend group, Clara, a simple college girl, sets out her transformation and is determined to do everything to prove her merit– even if it means losing her true self.
When Clara meets her boyfriend Eric's friend group for the first time, she gets tested and intimidated by them. She is then determined to revamp herself and make the effort to grow close with them, all for the sake of Eric, but the opposite happens. Her inauthenticity ruins her relationship with her boyfriend.
SYCO is a story of conformity and societal pressure in Generation Z, where external factors such as people, environment, and culture pressure us to change to the point of suppressing our authentic selves. It’s essential in Filipino culture to be assimilated into the group or risk ridicule from peers, which can lead to adolescents acting inauthentically.
The short film is 14 minutes and 17 seconds long. It is a comedy-drama film that revolves around 5 different characters, Clara, Eric, Keith, Nicole & Narcisa. The short was shot around Metro Manila, in De La Salle University - Manila, Sushi Nori - Bonifacio Global City, Out of Office - Bonifacio Global City, and a house in Muntinlupa City.
