Abstract/Summary
The research project delves into the pervasive issue of victim blaming through the creation of a short film. Entitled Anino, the group aims to shed light on issues that lurk in the shadows of day-to-day Philippine society. Other objectives include: bringing into common public discourse the impact of victim blaming on individuals' well-being, as well as raising awareness of its prevalence within the context of sexual harassment and cyberbullying among others.
The narrative was created and developed as the researchers explored the complexities of victim blaming, seeking to challenge the societal attitudes and systems that perpetuate this phenomenon. Drawing inspiration from real-world instances and societal critiques on sexual assault or harassment, the film strives to destigmatize conversations and reflections on these prevalent issues. With this, the group aspires for the audience to view the film as a catalyst for profound introspection, compelling them to reevaluate their actions and beliefs. By leveraging the power of cinematic storytelling, Anino endeavors to contribute to the discussion surrounding victim-blaming, sexual harassment, fostering empathy, and positive change.
The protagonist Althea is a carefree and happy-go-lucky girl who lives life to the fullest, usually making the best of every situation. On one unfortunate night however, everything changes as she is assaulted while on the way home from school. Trying to navigate this trauma alongside her expected public image, she creates an organization advocating against sexual harassment. But is this just a coping mechanism to seem strong? Someone mysterious ought to let her know.
