Abstract/Summary

The expository documentary entitled “Viva Sex! Undressing on Set” explored the Philippine contemporary erotica film industry, primarily Vivamax, by applying a critical lens to the male gaze and the system that perpetuates it. Since its inception, most Filipino erotica films have portrayed women as sexualized victims. In spite of this, women are embracing their work in the erotica industry, allowing them to practice their agency and sexuality. But as exploitation happens within the industry, one wonders whether women’s agency is shaped by the patriarchal power structure or by a bigger system than them. This documentary shed light on the moral ambivalence of women’s agency under the male gaze in the erotica industry.
