Abstract/Summary
This study sheds light on the issue of neglect and discrimination against persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Philippines, which are rooted in negative stereotypes and labeling them as “burdensome” and “unproductive” citizens in our society. To address these barriers, the researchers initiate a transformative transmedia project that advocates for the rights and capabilities of the PWD community, specifically the PWD artists. This project highlights the potential and abilities of PWD artists as proactive contributors to our society.
“Pinsel ng Pag-asa” amplifies the discourse on inclusivity and diversity where the PWD artists are recognized and empowered, understanding their importance in building a more progressive nation. This project also establishes a connection between art enthusiasts and PWD artists where they cultivate art appreciation and embrace the possibilities of the power of inclusive art. A transmedia approach allows the target audience to develop a deeper understanding of PWD studies, maximizing their roles not only as spectators of the study but as collaboratorsaswell. Combiningthewebsite, virtualartgallery, andshortdocumentaryfostersa dynamic learning environment where the audience can actively participate and gain more knowledge. These platforms are designed to be conveniently accessible by the public where the website functions as the centralized learning hub. The virtual art gallery is an innovative and creative approach to showcasing the abilities and narratives of PWD artists. Lastly, the short documentary allows the audience to have an in-depth exploration of the PWD artists’ stories of success and resilience. The immersive experience brought by this transmedia project aims to drive social change combating the limited visibility of PWD artists’ value in our society.
