Abstract/Summary
Because Kasi intends to dissect and humorously comment on issues of the day that deserve more attention. With increasing distrust in traditional media, the project attempts to cater to the tastes of Gen Z and serve as a jumping off point into further understanding of societal problems. The pilot tackles the network of misogynistic creators and communities known as The
Manosphere. The phenomena is a modern re-tread of the men’s rights movements of the 20th century that sought to stifle the efforts of feminists. With the internet providing a larger platform for potential bad actors, many have chosen to prey on an epidemic of isolated young men to proliferate their anti-woman beliefs and profit in the process. The project serves as a pilot to establish the potential format and style of the series. The first of two (2) pre-recorded segments consisted of ambush interviewing Lasallians for thoughts and reactions on the main topic. The second segment was an interview with DLSU faculty, Mx. Rodmar Eda. The segment sought a sociological perspective on the phenomenon of toxic masculinity and the appeal of the Manosphere. A monologue was produced to provide more context and information on the issue, accompanied by a variety of visuals and audio consisting of news reports, research, and internet memes to enhance the content’s presentation. The show’s intro was a series of skits set to the music of local independent artist The Palomas. Subtitles in English that include translations of Filipino words and phrases were implemented to assist in verbal clarity and bridge any gaps in a viewer’s proficiency in the latter language. The project was produced in-person, pre-recorded segments filmed on-location, and the monologue being shot in front of a live studio audience.
