Abstract/Summary

This research aims to study the effects of case-based pedagogy on the academic performance of accountancy students as mediated by student engagement and satisfaction. The case-based method is a learner-centered pedagogy that equips students with enhanced analytical skills to cope and compete with the growing challenges of the accounting profession by incorporating real-life situations into lessons for analysis and discussions. Despite the increased focus on employing this teaching approach, its effectiveness is yet to be established . This study handled quantifiable survey responses from De La Salle University-Manila Accountancy students who enrolled in Management Accounting 2 (ACYMAG 2) in the first and second terms of A.Y. 2021 - 2022 and A.Y. 2022 - 2023. The gathered data were subjected to Partial Least Squares - Structural Equations Modelling (PLS-SEM) to establish the relationship between case-based pedagogy and academic performance and assess the mediating role of student engagement and satisfaction in this relationship. The findings in this research yielded statistically insignificant results for the effectiveness of case-based pedagogy and a non-mediation relationship for student engagement and satisfaction in the academic performances of the students. Thus, the researchers recommend for users of the case-based method to change to other teaching strategies.
