Abstract/Summary

Care of the sick is one of the primary apostolates of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres. As such, there is a need for this study principally to evaluate the effectiveness of the present health apostolate of the Sisters of St. Paul in the southern part of the country, considering the organizational, marketing, financial and social aspects of the three private hospitals under study.

The study covers three private hospitals administered by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres in the Visayas. These hospitals are: Cebu Doctors' Hospital, Perpetual Succour Hospital, both located in Cebu City, and St. Paul's Hospital of Iloilo. Perpetual Succour Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital are both owned by the Sisters of St. Paul, and Cebu Doctors' Hospital, by a group of medical practitioners. All of the three are general hospitals administered by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres.

The researcher made use of the descriptive and historical methods of research. Pertinent data were gathered through: library and documentary research, random sampling of occupations of patients admitted in the hospital and interviews with administrators and key personnel of the hospitals concerned. Also, standards had been used with which to measure the performance of the three hospitals.

Based on the findings, several conclusions were drawn and recommendations were given.
