Abstract/Summary

The main aim of this project was to compare and evaluate the knowledge of religion among the fourth year high school students in some Catholic schools in the province of Benguet. For the purposes of comparison, the students were divided into three groups according to sex, age and length of their Catholic schooling or elementary background. Answers to specific questions were sought for. The respondents involved in the study were 251 senior high school students enrolled in the three selected Catholic secondary schools of Benguet during the school year 1978-1979. The instrument used for drawing the knowledge of the students in religion was the PASKO (Philippine Attitude Scale and Knowledge Orientation) test, a questionnaire designed to assess the religious knowledge and attitude outcomes of religious education program in the Philippines, which consists of 65 items. The research made use of a comparative study of frequencies, means and standard deviations that were obtained through the instrument. Various student groups were compared using the t-test in order to find out significant differences in their performance. The study revealed that there was a significant difference among male and female students, old and younger students, and among students who had studied in Catholic elementary schools and those who came from non-Catholic elementary schools.
