Abstract/Summary
This study is about meaningful work of millennial employee’s in relation to organizational commitment in selected service-oriented companies in Metro Manila. An indepth interview was conducted to identify and understand the personal characteristics, work characteristics, meaningful work, and organizational commitment of millennial employees. Convenient sampling was used in selecting 30 service-oriented millennial employees. Most of the interviewees were in their early adulthood (early to late 20s) with at least three or more years of work experience in the business processing outsourcing, recruitment firms, broadcast media, and academe. The study revealed that millennials are highly motivated because of their professional relationships with colleagues, their positive perception regarding the work environment, and their favorable outlook on the work itself. Furthermore, most millennial employees choose to stay in the organization due to the aforementioned reasons for their motivation. On the other hand, a few of the millennial employees want to leave their current organization due to negative experiences in the workplace such as having a negative professional relationship with their supervisors or not finding fulfillment with their work. This topic is highly crucial in the field of Human Resource Development and Organizational Development since it tackles employee retention, employee-supervisor relationship, and employee motivation.
