Abstract/Summary

The maritime movement is an integral activity to international trade. It transports key commodities such as oil and supplies from one place to another. With an increase of globalization, the demand of maritime activities also increases. Thus, the supporting actions to make maritime activities run smoothly demands standard and quality service. The supply and value chain activities in maritime has always been multifaceted and intricate. With the availability of technology, the delay, inaccuracy, and lapse of business general activities are considered undesirable practice for the company. The goal of this action research is to shorten the inquiry turnaround time of Mashin Shokai Ltd. Manila Office. To effectively identify the root cause of the delay, Fishbone analysis was conducted. We then created a plan how to address the problem, how to measure the process, and plot the activities for monitoring. Feedbacks from the collaborators and non-collaborators regarding the progress of the implementation, and their personal thoughts were collated and evaluated. In conclusion, the objectives set by the researchers and the collaborators were achieved. Using simple incremental changes on the sales process inquiry has made a huge difference in terms of time spend in processing a simple inquiry. The full participation of the Operation manager, collaborators, and non-collaborators are valuable ingredient why this action research is successful.
