Abstract/Summary

Account as a poetry manuscript features three sections, each with its own central figure: the boy, the ancestral home, and the old photographs. Each section proceeds in a distinct manner: the first takes on the mode of a parable, the second uses the lyric approach for the most part, while the third experiments with captioning photography that has already been translated into words. Amid the plurality of forms and the differences in subject matter, the larger thematic persuasions remain personal and familiar all throughout: the nature of objects, family, and home. The manuscripts exegetic essay, On Disposition, Poetry, and the Writing of Account, explores the essayistic attitude towards poetry from which the project was written touches on analogous works and relevant discourses on poetry that informed it, including those that discuss the lyric photography, and poetry as a language of inquiry and attempts to situate the project in the narrative of Philippine poetry in English.
