Abstract/Summary
Nippon Industrial Philippines belongs to the mover industry in the country. It is one of the top five firms in this industry. The basic products are moving equipments like elevators, escalators, walkalators and dumb waiters. The company's head office is located in Manila and its branch office in Davao. Currently, there are about 3,000 units of Nippon products that are installed in different commercial, industrial and residential high-rise buildings. The company is involved in the marketing of new units and service repairs and maintenance of installed units.
The mover industry is a secondary market of the construction industry. If the demand for high-rise projects is high, the demand for the mover equipment products is also high. The dilemma now for the mover industry is that the construction industry has not been as strong as firms would have wanted. Construction activities are few and the increased number of mover firm has led tot he high level of competition in the market.
Korean and Chinese manufacturers entered the market by the late 1990's. Since the manufacturers enjoy lower overhead costs as compared to other larger firms, they were able to successfully penetrate the market by offering their products at a lower price. The price competition has worked for the Korean firms, as one of the Korean firms was able to get the third biggest market share currently.
Nippon's product is manufactured in Malaysia. The company has been known in the industry as one of the best quality product in the industry with an extensive service network. They are considered as one of the premium brands with an average price of 15-20% higher than prevailing market prices.
The current changes in the industry outlook for the mover industry has led to some problems with Nippon. In this paper, I will present some of my recommended strategies in terms of the operation of the firm. In this way, they will be able to be more competitive in the market.
Also, I am a strong believer that good employees will make a good company. I have also recommended some strategies that the firm can adapt to develop its current employees and be able to motivate them to work harder for the company.
