Abstract/Summary

FETA Frieght Systems (Phils.), Inc., a freight forwarding company, is the focus of the discussion in this paper. The company now standing on its 11th year in the freight forwarding industry is currently concentrating in building and enhancing its core competencies to attain its goal of providing quality service to its clients, being the exporters, importers, overseas agents, employees and even their co-freight forwarders. The Transportation and Communication Industry and the Foreign Trade of the Philippines are also being discussed in the paper. The current situation of the industry and trade are to determine the opportunities and threats that may effect the business of the FETA. The strategic frameworks presented in the book Competing for the Future, written by Gary Hamel and C.K. Prahalad, were used to assess the strategies of FETA. The book presented the different views of strategy. The book also stressed that leaders must fashion a strategic architecture for their companies to replace outmoded architecture that is certain, over time, to collapse. Based on the analysis using the framework, FETA is performing well enough and preparing for the future. The management, conservatively, was able to point out strategies that will position them in the market for the future.

Using the framework in the book, strategies on increasing cargo production, increasing operation's efficiency and improving financial condition were recommended to further improve and support the present strategies of the company. The current strategies, recommended strategies and the possible outcomes of the recommendations are presented side by side at the end of the paper to show comparative analysis. Likewise, projected income statements, balance sheets and ratio analysis for the years 2000-2004 are presented to further validate effectivity of the recommendations.
