Abstract/Summary
This study aims to investigate the nature and extent of faculty participation in decision-making processes in schools. Three aspects were explored : 1) participation desired by the teachers, 2) participation determined by the school administration, and 3) actual participation or degree of involvement of the teacher.
A constructed questionnaire and personal interviews were used to gather data from the 85 high school and elementary teachers of the three MIC schools in Davao City at the end of school year 1973-74. The statistical techniques employed were the t-test, Pearson Product-Moment correlation, multiple correlation, and chi-square. It was found that the school administrations did not meet the desire of the teachers for participation in decision-making. The teachers' degree of active involvement in decision-making highly depended on the extent of participation extended to them by the school administration and on their desire for it. The level of educational attainment of the teachers affected their desire for participation in decision-making. Also, of the five areas of school administration namely, Student Personnel and Services, Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction, Finance and Maintenance, Relations and Communication, the teachers indicated that their priority, with regard to their participation in decision-making, was the area of Curriculum and Instruction.
