Abstract/Summary
This study aims to determine the value of the admission tests of San Pedro Hospital School of Nursing, Davao City. The subjects of the study were seventy-seven 1974 and 1975 graduates of San Pedro Hospital School of Nursing. Five instruments were included in the section on the scholastic aptitude tests which included Admission Test A (AT A), Admission Test B (AT B), Admission Test C (AT C), Admission Test D (AT D), and Admission Test E (AT E). The section on personality variables made use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). It was found that AT A was not as useful a predictor of general average and board examination rating as the rest of the admission tests. A combination of two admission tests was as useful a predictor of general average as all the five tests combined. It was also found that there was a significant moderate positive relationship between the general average and board examination rating, and at least one of the 18 MMPI variables yielded significant positive correlation with general average. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that AT C and AT E were the variables that contributed significantly to the prediction of general average. Both tests were also the most useful predictors of board examination ratings. The L and Si scales of the MMPI correlated significantly with general average. Also, the MMPI profiles of the three ability groups showed well-balanced adjustment on the whole.
