Abstract/Summary
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between absenteeism and the organization and individual-related factors in Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and suggest possible interventions that may address the absenteeism problem. It also aimed to determine the characteristics of a typical absentee at Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. The study utilized a descriptive correlational research design. There were 546 correctional personnel assigned in the National Capital Region of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology who participated in the study. Results indicated that most of the organization and individual-related factors: job satisfaction (r = -.65), job stress (r = .50), work schedule (r = .52), gender (r = .20), marital status (r = .59), number of dependents (r = .22), primary source of income (r = -.21), and rank (r = -.24) were correlated to absenteeism except for work environment (r = -.01). Based on existing individual-related factors, the characteristics of a typical absentee at Bureau of Jail Management and Penology are married female correctional personnel who are officers in rank. There were existing interventions initiated by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to alleviate absenteeism problem of correctional personnel however more interventions were sought so that the interventions will be much customized to the needs of correctional personnel.
